Jamey Johnson already has strong following of dedicated fans, but he can now count one more: Neil Young.
In a recent interview with Parade magazine, Neil was asked about artists he was listening to today. He named Jamey Johnson and also Lukas Nelson, son of country legend Willie Nelson.
“I love music, and there’s a lot of great music out there to listen to,” Neil told Parade. “There’s Jamey Johnson — he’s a great songwriter and singer, and he’s got a really great band. And there’s Lukas Nelson, who I really admire. He’s great and I love his music.”
Jamey is earning a lot of (well-deserved) attention lately thanks to his beautiful, understated new album Living for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran.
Lukas gained more prominence this year after he played a large role on his dad Willie’s album Heroes. He sang and/or played guitar on 10 tracks, including the gentle, moving “Just Breathe.”
Lukas also has a band of his own, the rock-and-blues-based outfit Promise of the Real.
And finally, Neil also mentioned someone very close to his heart (and home).
“I love listening to my wife Pegi’s band,” he said. “She’s got a great band.”

And a year earlier, during a press conference at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, Neil admitted he was also a fan of Taylor Swift. And not just her music, but how she handles herself professionally.
“I like watching her respond to all the attacks,” Neil said. “I like the ways she’s defining herself.”
